Amandi | Powerplant Cooling System
At the Amandi Power Plant in Ghana, MCM was called to address a critical issue affecting the facility’s original cooling-water system. The existing intake pipeline, located along the exposed Atlantic coastline, was repeatedly obstructed by sand, preventing the power plant from receiving the required cooling water and forcing water to be transported to the site by road tankers. MCM developed and implemented an alternative cooling-water solution based on a series of deep wells excavated until a reliable water source was reached. A new pipeline network was then installed to transfer water directly from the wells to the power plant for the cooling of its generators. The project required commercial diving and ROV operations in particularly challenging underwater conditions, including very low to near-zero visibility, demanding specialized personnel, equipment, and careful coordination throughout the works.
